Goat Rearing and the Go Getter
The enterprising stuff in Nupur Saha (33 years) of Dhalpara Trimohini village in Hili Block of Dakshin Dinajpur has elevated herself from an inconsequent housewife to a cynosure as a big farmer cum a Community Resource Person (CRP) in this callous mundane world of innumerable sinecures.
This brief account captures only the momentous junctures of her saga of struggle; – fought and won bit by bit.
Having become one of the founder members of Nabodaya Swanirvar Gosthi promoted by SPADE under the WSHG Project with NABARD support in 2020, Nupur started rejuvenating her latent dream of becoming an entrepreneur capitalizing the loan taken against her savings in the SHG and bring about family solvency.
Later, in 2018, she underwent a thorough training on modern scientific goat rearing practices through the LEDP Project of SPADE with NABARD support and started her goat rearing enterprise with 7 goats that later, with her toil and care multiplied in number. Now she rears 14 goats and she has started earning an escalating amount.
Nupur further unified her co members of the SHG Cluster to form a registered FPO (under the Societies Registration Act, 1961) with SPADE technical and financial support in August 2020 and learnt more about Goat care and business development. Now she is the Secretary of the FPO titled Hili Sankalpa Prani Seva Mahila Society (HSPSMS) and also a CRP for other goat rearing families.
Ever anxious after achieving more, as she is, Nupur still strives after expanding the size of the FPO and no leaves no stone unturned to reach her goal soon.
