Solar Power to Poor Rural Households

SPADE made another noble attempt to provide clean and sustainable Solar light to more than 1000 poor rural households in Manbazar and Burrabazar blocks of Purulia district.

This project was launched by a consortium of IIT Kharagpur, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and NBIRT. Our past rich experience of installation and support to 100 households was the basis of our sponsors selecting SPADE for this project.

The tribal communities of Purulia are too poor to have electricity and these solar domes in each individual huts were blessing to them. Though traditional electrification was provided to them under BPL scheme but many lines have been disconnected as they could not pay bills for want of money and as such, they are using kerosene lamps.

Most of the beneficiaries are from ST Community and at the same time financially very weak. They live as daily wage earner in agricultural fields in and around Purulia / nearby brick-fields / Stone crushing units, locally known as Khadans. As such they do not have any consistent monthly income. These families were motivated to install Micro Solar dome at their houses, free of cost, which is a completely new item to them and in the process, they agreed for a small amount towards installation charges and warranty support.
