Amidst the pandemic and lockdown, SPADE, our NGO, has tried to contribute to the extent it could do so far:

A REPORT

In view of the pandemic that is sweeping across the country, affecting thousands of people, SPADE has responded to the situation in many ways. SPADE has geared up its teams along with its women organizations in rendering humanitarian assistance for marginalized rural people living in most economically distressing conditions.

At Puncha Block, Purulia, West Bengal SPADE has distributed food and other essential items to over 100 beneficiaries in Puncha, in the form of rice, dal, vegetables, etc. This was a great relief to the people. The SHG groups in Purulia, with the encouragement of SPADE, have made around 50,000 masks to date and handed over to the district authorities.

At Kandi, Murshidabad, our women federation has donated Rs.50,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the succour of people of the State in this crisis. Besides, they have tailored around 50,000 masks so far and donated to the district office. The tailoring machines were gifted to them by SPADE. This has been similarly done at Nabadwip, Nadia district too.

To build consciousness on Coronavirus and observing precautions like social distancing, frequent washing of hands etc, SPADE motivated its SHG groups to build awareness among rural people thru fixing posters, distributing leaflets etc.

All volunteers have taken necessary hygiene precautions by wearing gloves and face masks and using hand sanitizers during distribution and various communications.
