Seminar on “Technology for Sustainable Development”: SPADE-IIEST-TARU-SHGPF – A daylong illuminating event at MN Dastur Hall, IIEST on 10th June, 2017, that covered various facets of Sustainable Development, by leading experts in the field, provided a wholesome knowledge to the participants.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Ajoy Ray, Director, IIEST, who stressed on the need for sustainable development as the only alternative for our survival on this Earth. While MN Roy, IAS (Retd.), questioned as to the ownership of latest technology, as such owners will be the decision makers of future, Dibyendu Sarkar, IAS, emphasized on identification of targets for such technological application using geo-mapping etc.

Technologists like Prof. Anirban Gupta of IIEST spoke on application of low cost filters in remotely rural areas, and Prof. Rintu Banerjee of IIT spoke on simple uses of enzymes for nutrition of the common man. Prof. Somprakash Bandyopadhyay of IIM presented on ways to close the rural urban digital divide and Prof. Bhadoria spoke on simple machines that makes coir rope mats and milling rice.

The closing session was presided by Prof. Ajoy Ray who stressed the need for such meetings, with participations of more institutes and to work at the grassroots towards a sustainable world.
