State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), West Bengal and SPADE

The work is going on in 104 numbers of wards out of total 151 wards in 6 municipalities spread over 4 districts of the state and till 30th September, 2018, 1006 SHGs have been formed. The MOU as partner of State Urban Livelihood Mission programme is going on in in six Municipalities in South West Bengal, viz., Haldia and Tamluk in Purba Medinipore, Chinsura, Baidyabati in Hooghly, Baharampur in Murshidabad and Siuri in Birbhum.

Soyabean Training Program at Purulia launched on 2nd May, 2017 and completed. This training covered a long way towards the benefit of villagers, where rainfall is scanty and soybean is the right vegetable to cultivate. Minister of Paschimanchal Affairs, Hon’ble Shantiram Mahato inaugurated Madam Sandhyarani Tudu, Minister for Backward classes.

Seminar on “Technology for Sustainable Development”: SPADE-IIEST-TARU-SHGPF – A daylong illuminating event at MN Dastur Hall, IIEST on 10th June, 2017, that covered various facets of Sustainable Development, by leading experts in the field, provided a wholesome knowledge to the participants.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Ajoy Ray, Director, IIEST, who stressed on the need for sustainable development as the only alternative for our survival on this Earth. While MN Roy, IAS (Retd.), questioned as to the ownership of latest technology, as such owners will be the decision makers of future, Dibyendu Sarkar, IAS, emphasized on identification of targets for such technological application using geo-mapping etc.

Technologists like Prof. Anirban Gupta of IIEST spoke on application of low cost filters in remotely rural areas, and Prof. Rintu Banerjee of IIT spoke on simple uses of enzymes for nutrition of the common man. Prof. Somprakash Bandyopadhyay of IIM presented on ways to close the rural urban digital divide and Prof. Bhadoria spoke on simple machines that makes coir rope mats and milling rice.

The closing session was presided by Prof. Ajoy Ray who stressed the need for such meetings, with participations of more institutes and to work at the grassroots towards a sustainable world.

Civil Society in India: Opportunities and Challenges – Possible areas to explore

SPADE and Civil Society Academy [https://www.civilsocietyacademy.org/] organized a one day consultation on 28th May, 2018 at WBVHA, Kolkata [http://www.wbvha.co.in/] to exchange and interact views and ideas on “Civil Society in India: Opportunities and Challenges – Possible areas to explore”. It highlighted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which officially came into force since 2016… with civil society, local authorities, indigenous people, local communities, academia and other relevant sectors…

Paschimanchal Unnayan Parshad, Government of West Bengal, bestowed the Project on Promotion of Social Entrepreneurship through increased Awareness, Cultivation Skill and Marketing Training on Soyabean as a Commercial Crop as well as a Nutrition and Dietary Supplement among the Women Self Help Group members in the mal-nourishment infested rural areas of Purulia district to SPADE, the organization that has long proven track record of promoting Self Help Groups and livelihood with the marginal community in Purulia district.

However, the sanction and release of fund for implementation of “Employment Generation scheme for women of SHGs of SC/ST” by Capacity Building, Training, Publicity and Organizing Awareness Camp on Soyabean Cultivation of 500 Women and Supplying of Soyabean seed fertilizer, pesticide to 75 women and monitoring production throughout the year at Manbazar – I Block of Purulia District
